The workshop on Energy Landscape of Complex Systems was held in CSRC, 15‐16 June 2013. The workshop was organized by Professor Leihan Tang and Dr. Jin Yu from CSRC, Professor Xuhui Huang from HKUST, and Professor Yuan Yao from Peking University. It brought together more than 50 local and overseas researchers and students from applied math, physics, chemistry and biology.
The workshop covered a broad range of frontier topics in statistical physics and biophysics, computational chemistry, systems biology, and computational neural science. The concept and metaphor of energy landscape to drive system’s dynamics and behavior permeated through all 18 presentations featured at the workshop. At the end of the workshop, the participants joined a heated roundtable discussion on the philosophical connotations and denotations of the landscape idea in biological research in particular.
The workshop has successfully achieved its goal of serving as a platform for exchange of ideas and methodologies among scientists from different fields in tackling complex dynamical phenomena. It also provided the impetus to further the scope of research in individual disciplines.
